Your X-ray at Bright Radiology Mooroolbark
X-rays are a quick, painless way to examine areas such as bones, joints and the chest. Most require little to no preparation and take around 10–15 minutes. After your scan, you can return to normal activities while a radiologist reviews your images and prepares a report for your referring practitioner.

Key Points:

  • •Book by phone, online or by visiting our Mooroolbark clinic—we accept all valid imaging referrals.
  • •Bring your referral and Medicare card, and follow any preparation instructions provided when booking.
  • •Most eligible Medicare scans are bulk billed, excluding obstetric ultrasounds and CT calcium scoring.
  • •Appointments generally take 15–30 minutes, with same-day and walk-in scans available where possible.
  • •Reports are usually sent to your referring practitioner within two business days.

What is an X-ray?

An X-ray is a quick and simple way to take pictures of structures inside your body. Your healthcare practitioner may request one to examine a bone or joint, check for an injury, or look at your chest.

How do I prepare?

Most standard X-rays need no special preparation. Please bring your referral and follow any instructions you were given when booking.

Depending on the area being examined, you may be asked to remove jewellery or clothing with metal parts, or to change into a gown.

What happens during the X-ray?

A radiographer will explain the scan and help position you. You may need to stand, sit or lie down. When the image is taken, you’ll be asked to keep still; for some X-rays, you may also be asked to hold your breath briefly.

The X-ray itself is painless. You may need more than one image so the area can be seen from different angles. A standard X-ray appointment is a quick and simple examination! It should only take 10-15 minutes from the time your name is called to the time you leave our clinic!

Is an X-ray safe?

X-rays use a very small amount of radiation, and it is a very safe examination. Your healthcare practitioner requests the examination when the information it may provide is useful for your care. Our radiographers use the radiation needed to obtain suitable images. If you have questions about radiation or previous scans, please ask.

What happens afterwards?

You can return to your normal activities straight away. Our specialist radiologist at Bright Radiology will review the images and prepare a report for your referring healthcare practitioner. The reports will be generated within 2 days of the scan! Please arrange to discuss the result with them, as they can explain what it means alongside your symptoms and medical history.
