Your First Visit to Bright Radiology Mooroolbark: What to Expect

Visiting a radiology clinic for the first time can feel unfamiliar, particularly if you are unsure what your scan involves or how you need to prepare.

At Bright Radiology Mooroolbark, our team aims to make your experience as comfortable and straightforward as possible, from booking your appointment through to sending the results to your referring healthcare practitioner.

Here is what you can expect during your first visit.

How to book

Booking in a scan at our clinic is simple and easy. Once you have your referral letter from your doctor, give us a call anytime so that our reception staff can help you book in your scan at a time which is most convenient for you. During business hours, feel free to visit the book appointment section of our website, and once you input your scan details, our friendly staff will contact you to assist with your booking. Lastly, if you walk into our clinic with your referral form, we can try to slot you in for your scan right away!

Please remember, we accept all referral forms at Bright Radiology Mooroolbark (meaning your imaging request does not necessarily need to be on our referral pad)!

Before your appointment

Preparation requirements depend on the type of medical imaging examination you are having.

Some scans require no special preparation, while others may require you to fast, drink water, have a full bladder or temporarily avoid certain activities. Our reception staff will explain any specific instructions to you clearly when you make your appointment.

If you are uncertain about your preparation, please contact us before attending. Correct preparation helps us obtain clear images and reduces the chance of your examination needing to be delayed or repeated.

What should you bring?

Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • Your imaging referral
  • Your Medicare card (a photo is acceptable!)
  • Any information or forms requested when you booked

You may also wish to wear comfortable clothing without excessive metal, zips or jewellery around the area being examined. Depending on your scan, you may be asked to change into a gown which will be supplied by us!

Bright Radiology Mooroolbark is located at Shop 1, 191–195 Hull Road, Mooroolbark 3138. We are located right in the heart of Mooroolbark at the 5 ways intersection! Often our patients recognise us as the location of the old Vicroads testing centre!

There are more than 40 parking spaces directly in front of the clinic, and the practice is wheelchair accessible. We are lucky because parking is never an issue at our clinic! Arriving a little before your scheduled appointment gives you time to check in and complete any necessary paperwork.

When you arrive, our reception team will confirm your personal details, referral and Medicare information. We will also ask you to kindly sign a Medicare Assignment of Benefit (AOB) form, which will allow us to bulk-bill medicare on your behalf!

What happens before your scan?

A qualified member of our imaging team will explain the examination and answer any questions you may have.

You may be asked about:

  • Your symptoms and relevant medical history
  • Previous operations or medical conditions
  • Allergies
  • Current medications
  • The possibility of pregnancy
  • Previous reactions to contrast
  • Kidney function, if contrast may be required

These questions help us perform your examination safely and obtain the most useful images for your healthcare practitioner.

Your experience will depend on the type of scan requested. Bright Radiology Mooroolbark provides a range of diagnostic imaging services, including:

  • X-ray
  • Ultrasound
  • Low-dose CT
  • DEXA bone-density scanning
  • Coronary artery calcium scoring
  • Lung cancer screening

Your radiographer or sonographer will guide you through each stage of the examination. You may need to lie or stand in a particular position, remain still or briefly hold your breath while the images are taken.

The team will make every effort to keep you informed and comfortable throughout your visit. If you experience discomfort or feel anxious at any stage, please tell the staff member performing your scan. Rest assured, our kind and qualified staff will ensure you are comfortable at every stage of your scan!

How long will the appointment take?

Appointment times vary depending on the type and complexity of the examination.

A straightforward X-ray may be completed relatively quickly in about 15 minutes, while an ultrasound or CT examination may take longer - up to 30 minutes. Additional time may also be required when multiple areas are being examined or special preparation is involved.

Our team can provide an estimated appointment duration when you book your appointment.

Does Bright Radiology offer bulk billing?

Yes! Bulk billing is available for eligible Medicare services.

At Bright Radiology we bulk bill all our scans, with the only exceptions being Obstetric Ultrasounds and CT Calcium scores. Please contact our reception staff if you wish to understand the out-of-pocket fees associated with these scans.

If you are unsure at any point, please contact our team before your appointment if you would like to confirm any expected costs associated with your requested scan.

Once your examination is complete, the images are reviewed by our qualified radiologist.

The radiologist prepares a report explaining the relevant findings and sends it to the healthcare practitioner who referred you. At Bright Radiology, all our reports are made available within 2 business days of your scan, and on most occasions even sooner! If your scan is marked as ‘urgent’ by your referring doctor, we will be able to send the report back to your doctor within 4 hours of your scan.

Can I book a same-day appointment?

Same-day appointments may be available where possible, depending on the examination and the day’s schedule.

Bright Radiology also accepts walk-in visits. However, appointments and clinically urgent cases are prioritised, so booking in advance may help reduce your waiting time. Some examinations always require an appointment and preparation.

Contact the clinic if you are unsure whether you need to book.
